Century Old Colour

I thought I'd share with you these amazing images that were created one hundred years ago by a man named Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944).

Prokudin-Gorskii developed photography equipment that created a number of glass plate negatives using red, green and blue filters. The resulting images were projected using coloured light to create a full colour image.
Here are some of the wonderful images Prokudin-Gorskii captured on a trip across the Russian Empire (1909-1915). The journey was commissioned by Tsar Nicholas II (Anastasia's father).

You can find the complete set of images from his trip at the Library of Congress, complete with high resolution images to download for free.
Enjoy!
